When Does a Car Key Need Reprogramming?

Most modern cars pair each key to the vehicle's immobilizer through a chip inside the key. That pairing can break or need to be redone for a few common reasons:

• A key or fob was lost and needs to be erased from the car's memory for security
• A new spare key was cut but never paired to the immobilizer
• The car's battery was disconnected or replaced and the system needs re-syncing

How Reprogramming Works
